At McMaster High School, students are arranged to live with their host families and attend school together, experiencing firsthand American family and campus life. The diet of Americans is very different from that of Chinese people, but most of the families try to make some food that they think is delicious, and some even make some Chinese food. The students are basically not unaccustomed to eating. Some students even have fun practicing cooking with their homes. Within a week, the students established a deep bond with their American families. The most talked about and joyful thing among students is the various joys of being with their host families. Although language communication is not yet very smooth, students try their best to have more communication with their homes through various gestures and electronic dictionaries.
At the international exchange center of the school, everyone visited the Confucius Classroom initiated by Zibo No.1 High School and deeply felt the enthusiasm and strong atmosphere of foreign children learning Chinese. Chinese is an important course at McMahon High School, and Chinese elements can be seen everywhere in the International Learning Center. There are many Chinese characters written by students on the walls here, and many places have Confucius statues and quotes posted. In the classrooms and corridors, there are many physical objects from China, including Chinese porcelain, calligraphy and painting, Chinese folding fans, Peking Opera masks, dolls, and traditional costumes. In Principal McCarthy's office, there are also traditional Chinese paintings of plum blossoms, bamboo, and chrysanthemums hanging. The teachers and students here also take pride in speaking Chinese, and often greet us in Chinese. The International Learning Center not only values the learning of foreign languages, but also attaches great importance to the creation of language environments, cultural influence, and harmonious teacher-student relationships. The open and free classrooms have left a deep impression on everyone.
